It’s time to light the lights

I’m drawn to lights for their power to influence conversations and creativity.
Here are a few of my personal lighting projects to light my home and ideas.

1

TERRA COTTA DOMES

Our planet is riddled with garbage… some it is still useful. I began collecting egg cartons from local taco shops around Austin. I brought my stash to a ceramicist along with some lighting sketches, hoping we could make something useful. Turns out when paper pulp is mixed with clay, the fired clay is stronger, more porous, and lighter than solid clay. We called our collaboration the Boda Boda Clay Club. Check out our process below.

2

Cotton Piping Nests

I often tie knots on road trips to pass the time. I came across a box of piping and wondered what forms it could take. These are a few explorations with cotton piping. We considered covering it in clay, but feared it would explode in the kiln. Now it just looks like a milk chocolate beehive which I’m okay with.

CAST CONCRETE CONCEPTS

Pourable and durable. Familiar and resilient.
Working on form explorations of cast concrete.

Box KitE LITE

Revisiting an old concept kite I made with dowels and rip stop.
Increasing durability, reshaping the form, add hidden LEDs.
